Documentalista estadounidense. En 1975 fundó su propia productora, con la que realizó documentales como Brooklyn Bridge (1981), The Shakers (1984), The Statue of Liberty (1985) y The Congress (1988). Su aclamada serie The Civil War (1990), televisada en PBS, obtuvo numerosos premios de cine, televisión y de institutos históricos. Entre sus documentales televisivos posteriores se incluyen Baseball (1994), Lewis and Clark (1997), Frank Lloyd Wright (1998) y Jazz (2001).
